Skipping can be very good for our health. It raises the pulse rate, improves coordination and can tone muscles. Ultimately, we can become fitter through skipping and it can also help you lose weight. It is easy to do and requires little in the way of equipment, so why not get started?
Anyone who skipped during their childhood will simply be able to pick up a skipping rope and get started, but if you’ve never skipped before, it can be a bit tricky at first. One good place to get help and advice is by attending a skipping workshop.
The first thing you’ll need is a skipping rope that is the right size. To judge this, take a rope and stand on the middle. When you lift the handles to a skipping position, there should be a little bit of give in the rope.
You also need somewhere to skip. Outdoors is generally best, but as long as you’ve got a firm floor and a high ceiling, you can do it indoors. Lift the rope behind you and bring it over your head. As it returns towards your feet, simply jump over it. That is the basic skipping move. A bit of practice and you’ll soon get the timing right.
